Air Force hosts 57th Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sept. 19-21

THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team hosts the 57th Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Saturday-Monday, Sept. 19-21, at the Academy's Eisenhower Golf Course. This is a two-part event with the team competition being played on the Blue Course and the individual event on the Silver Course. Live scoring will be available HERE.
THE FORMAT: The team competition will be held on the Blue Course with tee times beginning at 8:30 am MT on Saturday and Sunday and at 7:30 am MT on Monday. Each five-member team will count the top four scores each day. All individuals will play on the Silver Course, with a shotgun start at 9:30 am on Saturday and Sunday and at 8:30 am on Monday. The practice round will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
THE FIELD: Along with Air Force, the 18-team field includes: Colorado, Cal State Northridge, Denver, Gonzaga, Northern Colorado, San Jose State, SIU-Edwardsville, Southern Utah, UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, UTEP, Weber State and Wyoming.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational is in its 57th season. Formerly known as the Rocky Mountain Invitational and the Pikes Peak Invitational, the event was renamed the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in 2003 to honor the legendary coach who headed up the Air Force program for 25 years and is a member of the Air Force Athletics' Hall of Fame.
EISENHOWER GOLF COURSE: The Blue Course of the Eisenhower Golf Club opened in the 1959 and is named after former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who took part in the dedication ceremony. The 7,541 yard, par 72 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and was ranked as the third best military course in the nation (PGA.com) and the 24th best college course (Golf Week) in the country. The Silver Course, designed by an excellent Colorado architect, Frank Hummel, is the newer of the two Eisenhower courses. It is shorter than the Blue Course, but makes up for its lack of length with fast, tricky greens, narrow fairways and many hazards.
THE LINEUP: 1- Eli Huntington; 2-Ben Zeiler; 3-Daniel Chazen; 4-Grant Samuelson; 5-Carson Baker; Ind-Grant Baer, Jack Halloran, Karson Knox.
LAST SEASON AT THE GENE: Idaho won the team title with an 841 (-23). Gonzaga was second (851) and UC San Diego was third (852). Air Force was 21st at 887. Eric Liveringhouse led the Falcons over 54 holes at 217 (+1). Eli Huntington was second on the team at 220 (+4), followed by Carson Baker (221). Northern Colorado's Kaelen Dulany was the top individual at 202 (-14), just one shy of the tournament record. In the GMFI Individual event on the Silver Course, UC Davis' Louis Grizot won with a 54-hole score of 206 (-10). The top Falcon on the Silver Course was then-freshman Ben Zeiler in 13th place at 214 (-2), including a career-best 68 (-4) in the second round.
LAST WEEK: Senior Eli Huntington and sophomore Ben Zeiler led the Air Force golf team on the final day of the Folds of Honor Collegiate, Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven, Mich. Huntington and Zeiler tied as the top Falcons over 54-holes at 225 (+12). Baker finished at 229, followed by Chazen (231) and Samuelson (235). Air Force finished in 13th place at 906, eight strokes ahead of Navy. Georgia Tech was the wire-to-wire champion, finishing at 834 (-18). Notre Dame and 15th-ranked Texas tied for second at 839. Cincinnati was fourth (842) and 18th-ranked Alabama was fifth (844).
HUNTINGTON AT THE STEPHENS CUP: Senior Eli Huntington finished 24th at the sixth annual the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, Sept. 14-15, at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas.Huntington 24th place finish is the best ever by a Falcon. The team captain from Camas, Wash., came in at 226 (+10), shooting 74-75-77 on par-72, 7,482-yard PGA course. His score is the third best by a Falcon at the Stephens Cup at Isaac Layne shot 221 (+5) in 2022 at the Seminole Club in Juno Beach, Fla., and Brooks Morrell shot 217 (+7, par 70) in 2025 at the Shoreacres in Lake Bluff, Ill. After an opening round 74 with 15 pars, Huntington shot 75 in the second round with a pair of birdies. In the final round, Tuesday, Sept. 15, he shot a 77 with two more birdies. Huntington was the highest finisher among all service academy players. Army's Andre Chang shot 230 and Navy's Danny Auffant shot 237.
UP NEXT: Following the GMFI, Air Force will compete in the annual Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado, Sept. 29-30, in Boulder, Colo.
