Air Force Rallies for 2-1 Win at Denver

DENVER, Colo., - Air Force (5-2-0) rallied for a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Denver (1-5-2) Thursday evening at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The Falcons recorded six shots on goal, with Annika Jost and Chase Borntreger finding the back of the net.
The victory marked Air Force's first win over the Pioneers since 2015 and the first time the Falcons have defeated Denver on its home field.
In goal, Sydney Nelms marked five saves.
Despite six shots and seven corner kicks in the opening half, Air Force found itself trailing after Denver struck in the 19th minute, sending a shot over Sydney Nelms' reach and into the upper-right corner. Maddy Walsh and Annika Jost each had strong opportunities to level the score, but neither could find the back of the net as the Falcons entered halftime down 1-0.
The Falcons came out firing after halftime, finding the back of the net just two minutes into the second half. In the 47th minute, Mai Mateaki played the ball forward to Sammi Kinoshita, who tapped it over to Addie Doyle on the right wing. Doyle carried the ball into the attacking third before sending a cross toward Annika Jost. Jost's initial shot was deflected by DU's goalkeeper, but the rebound fell right back to her. Jost quickly fired again, sending her second attempt off the keeper's hand and into the net with Air Force's equalizer.
Following a Denver throw-in, Chase Borntreger intercepted the ball and quickly fired from distance. Her shot sailed just under the crossbar and beyond the keeper's reach, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead and the game-winning goal. The strike marked Borntreger's first goal of the season at the 73' mark.
The Falcons return to Cadet Soccer Stadium for a senior day match and the final non-conference game of the season against Eastern Washington on Sunday September 20 at 12 p.m. MT.
