Falcons shot 279 to jump into fifth place at Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force shot a 279 (-9) in the second round of the 57^th Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Eisenhower Blue Course. The 279 is the best score by the Falcons in any tournament since a 278 in the 2018 Loyola Intercollegiate. It is the best round by the Falcons at the GMFI since a 278 in the first round of the 2013 tournament.

Senior Grant Samuelson led the Falcons and posted a career-best for the second straight day. In the second round, Samuelson made five birdies with just one bogey for a 68 (-4). Freshman Daniel Chazen shot a collegiate career best 70 (-2), making four birdies on the day. Senior team captain Eli Huntington also shot 70 (-2). Starting on the back, Huntington shot 37, but rebounded with three birdies, and no bogeys on the front for a 33. Sophomore Ben Zeiler made four birdies on the day for a one-under 71. Senior Carson Baker also made four birdies for a 74.

After 36 holes, Samuelson is tied for fourth overall at 138 (-6). Zeiler is tied for 16^th at 142 (-2). Chazen sits at 146, Huntington is at 148 and Baker is at 149. Colorado's Brandon Knight, UCSB's Dylan Ma and UC Davis' Trenton Stuart are tied atop the leaderboard at 137 (-7). Knight shot a 64 (-8) in the second round, just two strokes shy of tying the tournament and Blue Course record of 62.

Colorado, ranked 11th in The Differential computer rankings, leads all teams after 36 holes at 558 (-18). Denver, Wyoming and UC Davis are all tied for second at 570 (-6). Air Force is in fifth place at 571 (-5).

In the individual event on the par-72, 6,510-yard Silver Course, San Jose State's Joey Allan is in first place at 134 (-10). Colorado has the next two spots as Casey Kosney is second at 136 and Gavin Amelia is third at 138. Air Force freshman Jack Halloran is tied for ninth at 144 (Even). Freshman Grant Baer sits at 146 and senior Karson Knox is at 155.

The final round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational is Monday, Sept. 21, with tee times starting at 7:30 am MT on the Blue Course and a shotgun start at 8:30 am MT for the individuals on the Silver Course.
