Falcons place eighth at Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force golf team placed eighth at the 57^th Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Monday, Sept. 21, at the Eisenhower Blue Course.

Air Force shot a 54-hole team total of 864 (Even), the best team score by the Falcons at the GMFI since an 862 (-2) in 2019. Colorado won the 2026 team event at 834 (-30). Denver and UTEP tied for second at 849 (-15) in the 18-team field.

After an opening round 292, the Falcons shot a 279 (-9) in the second round and closed out the three-day tournament with a 293 (+5) in the final round. The 279 in the second round was the best score by the Falcons in any tournament since 2018 and was the best round by the Falcons at the GMFI since a 278 in the first round of the 2013 tournament.

Senior Grant Samuelson was the top Falcon over 54 holes, finishing tied for ninth with a career-low 212 (-4), shooting 70-68-74. Sophomore Ben Zeiler tied for 32^nd overall at 217 (+1), going 71-71-75. Senior Carson Baker finished at 219, followed by senior Eli Huntington (222) and freshman Daniel Chazen (224). Wyoming's Brody Leid won the individual title at 207 (-9).

In the individual event on the Academy's Eisenhower Silver Course, San Jose State's Joey Allan and Colorado's Casey Kosney and Gavin Amelia all tied at 205 (-11), tying the tournament record in the individual event. Allan won the title on the fourth playoff hole. Air Force freshman Jack Halloran tied for ninth at 213 (-3), shooting 69-75-69. Freshman Grant Baer tied for 12^th at 217 (+1), shooting 76-70-71. Senior Karson Knox shot 235.

Air Force returns to action at the Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado, Sept. 29-30, at the Boulder Country Club.
