Lakota Wills is in his first season on the Air Force football staff as a defensive assistant.
Wills is a 2021 graduate of the Academy where he was a three-year letterwinner. After completing his collegiate football career and participating in the New Orleans Saints Rookie Mini-Camp, Wills transitioned to rugby, representing the U.S. Air Force Rugby Team in national competitions.
He began his operational Air Force career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where he served as a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) country manager supporting several key partner nations in the INDOPACOM/SOUTHCOM region. His role involved overseeing critical defense acquisitions and fostering international partnerships, directly contributing to regional security and alliance building. For his exceptional work, he was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal.
Following his tenure in FMS, Wills transitioned to the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Business and Enterprise Systems (BES) Directorate. There, he supported sustainment and strategic improvement efforts for the BES Atlassian Toolset, enabling collaboration and software development continuity across the Air Force's digital infrastructure.
Driven by a passion for mentorship and a desire to give back to the institution that shaped his foundation, Wills applied to the Officer Instructor & Recruiting Special Duty (OI&RSD) program. He is now proudly serving at the United States Air Force Academy, contributing to the recruitment and development of future leaders while also serving as an assistant defensive football coach, bringing his athletic and leadership experience full circle.
