Air Force Earns Hard-Fought Win At San José State

Air Force football (3-6, 2-4 MW) earned a 26-13 Mountain West road win at San José State (3-6, 2-3 MW) Saturday night at CEFCU Stadium in San José, Calif. The Falcons churned out 261 yards on the ground and the defense forced three turnovers for the first road win of the season.

Trailing 3-0 after a quarter of play, the Falcons erupted for 16 second quarter points to take a 16-3 lead into the half. A pair of Liam Szarka rushing touchdowns and a safety by Peyton Zdroik led to the Air Force scores.

San José State came roaring back in the second-half with 10 unanswered points to pull to within three at 16-13 early in the fourth.

Air Force answered with a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to go back up 23-13. The drive was capped by a 12-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Szarka to wide receiver Quin Smith.

The Spartans refused to go away, pulling to within a touchdown with a field goal to make it 23-16. Air Force responded again with an 11-play, 60-yard drive that culminated with a 33-yard field goal by senior Reagan Tubbs to essentially seal the game at 26-16 with 31 seconds left in regulation.

Junior running back Owen Allen led the ground game by pounding out 109 yards on 20 carries. It was his third game over 100 yards rushing across the last four games. Szarka added 87 yards on 27 carries.

The Falcons threw for just 41 yards in the air. Senior Bruin Fleischmann had 29 yards on two catches to lead the pass catchers.

Defensively, linebacker Dallas Daley led the Falcons with seven tackles. Levi Brown and Jaylin Reese had interceptions for the Falcons.

Air Force returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 15, at UConn. The is a 2 pm ET kick and will be televised by CBS Sports.
