Bringing a wealth of knowledge to the Academy, both as a coach and international competitor, Levan Sisauri is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Air Force men's gymnastics team.
During his first season with the program, Sisauri coached three Falcons to USAG event titles and three others to appearances in the event finals of the NCAA Championships, while helping Air Force successfully defend its team title at the USAG Collegiate Nationals.
Sisauri joined the Academy staff after spending 14 years as the boys' program director and head coach of the Crystal Lake Gymnastics Center in Illinois, where he organized training schedules for both the competitive and summer seasons. He had previously served as the head coach of the Set-10 Competitive Team at Ruhl's More Than Gymnastics in Indiana and worked as an instructor for the Region V Men's Gymnastics Team from 1994-2004. As a junior national coach, his gymnasts collected over 1,000 team and individual gold medals.
Sisauri spent nine years as an international competitor (1984-93), concluding his career at the 1993 World Championships in Birmingham, England. The recipient of numerous national and international titles as a competitor for the Republic of Georgia and the USSR, Sisauri was a three-year member of the USSR Senior National Men's Gymnastics Team (1989-91) and a six-year member of the USSR Junior National Team (1984-89). He was awarded the Master of Sport in 1986 and the International Master of Sport in 1988 -- the youngest Georgian to earn those USSR gymnastics ranks.
Sisauri, a 1991 graduate of the Georgian State Institute of Physical Culture, has been married to his wife, Rebecca, for 21 years and has four children – Teia (20), who attends the University of Colorado, Luka (18), Sofia (6) and Maia (4).
