Maj Josiah Loeser, a 2009 Academy graduate and four-year letterwinner on the Air Force men’s gymnastics team, returns to Cadet West Gym for his fifth season as an assistant coach with the program. As a former gymnast that understands the rigors of life at the Academy, Loeser brings a unique perspective to the Falcons’ coaching staff.
Loeser, who first served as an assistant for the Falcons during the 2016-17 seasons, captured USAG Assistant Coach of the Year honors during both seasons of his initial stint. During his time on the sidelines, the Falcons saw three gymnasts combine for five NCAA All-America awards, while his athletes accounted for seven top-10 finishes in the event finals at the NCAA Championships. Air Force also captured a pair of USAG team titles, advanced to two NCAA National Qualifiers and accounted for 13 Academy records during those first two years.
As a gymnast at the Academy during the 2006-09 seasons, Loeser competed in nearly every team competition, while advancing as an individual at the USAG Championships and NCAA National Qualifier multiple times. Loeser served as a team captain during his senior year, while capturing USAG All-America honors on the still rings. He remains listed among the Academy's all-time standings on the still rings, as his 14.900 is the 19th-highest score in program history, under that scoring system.
Following graduation, Loeser spent five years as an active duty officer in the Air Force, controlling the GPS satellite systems as a satellite engineer and instructor with the 2nd Space Operations Squadron (SOPS) at Schriever AFB, Colorado. Loeser, the younger brother of head coach Josh Loeser, is a 2012 graduate of the MBA program at the University of Colorado –Colorado Springs.
