BEFORE USAFA: Graduated from Glen Allen High School…competed at the club level for Above the Bar Gymnastics Academy (Ashland, Virginia)…coached by his father, Viorel Popescu.
PERSONAL: Full name is Erik Liam Popescu…son of Viorel and Teresa Popescu…father was a member of the Romanian National Gymnastics Team…is an only child…majoring in physics, while earning a minor in nuclear strategy and policy…future plans include becoming a pilot…named to the Athletic Director’s List…currently serving on squadron’s command staff…hobbies include flying and video games…traveled to Pope Army Airfield at Fort Liberty, N.C., over the summer for Operation Air Force…also served as an NCO during Basic Cadet Training…favorite event is the high bar…member of Cadet Squadron 36.
