Lt. Col. Richard Judd Robins serves as head team physician on the sports medicine service at the Air Force Academy, overseeing the medical care provided to the Academy’s approximately 1000-plus intercollegiate athletes. After completing the Air Force Academy as a distinguished graduate in 2000, Robins attended the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He then went on to complete his orthopaedic residency training at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio Texas, and an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Utah, serving as a team physician at the high school, collegiate, minor, and major professional league levels of athletic competition in a variety of sports including football, basketball, gymnastics, alpine and Nordic skiing, and baseball. He currently serves as assistant professor of surgery with Uniformed Services University, and is the orthopaedic residency site director at the Air Force Academy. He is active in sports medicine research as a primary and associate investigator, and has authored articles in all major orthopaedic sports medicine journals. He is currently active as a committee member with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), and Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons (SOMOS). With over 17 years of experience in orthopaedic and sports medicine care, Robins is passionate about protecting and returning athletes and military service members at all levels back to their highest level of function. He is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine.
