Air Force freshman Jennifer Rowland scored a goal and had an assist as seventh-seeded Air Force upset second-seeded New Mexico, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championships, Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Rowland, the MWC Freshman of the Year, opened the scoring after connecting on a pass from sophomore midfielder Cookie Day to put the Falcons ahead in the 52nd minute, 1-0. Rowland then fed sophomore Marci Freund in the 88th minute to give Air Force a two-goal advantage.
New Mexico's lone goal came in the 89th minute when freshman forward/midfielder Coco D'Angelo followed up a shot from fellow freshman Rachel Addison.
Air Force, 8-10-1 overall, improved to 7-0 this season when scoring the first goal of the match and advanced to the MWC semifinals for the third straight season. The Falcons will play third-seeded UNLV, a team AFA beat earlier in the season, Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m.
