Volleyball Team Loses to Southeastern Louisiana, 3-1

The Falcons volleyball team suffered a loss in its opening game at the Air Force Invitational, falling 3-1 (22-30, 30-28, 27-30, 20-30) to Southeastern Louisiana.
Freshman Kaitlin McEwen led all players in kills with 17 in the first match of her young career. McEwen, who did not play in the Falcons first four matches due to eligibility issues, finished the match with a solid hitting percentage of .316. Sophomore Delavane Diaz, who had 12 kills, was the only other Falcon to hit in double figures in kills.
Kristin Huitt had 33 assists and 15 digs, notching a team-leading fourth double-double. Brittany Edmonds added 13 digs for the Falcons.
In the early match-up, Washington handily defeated Illinois-Chicago, 3-0 (30-19, 30-20, 30-23). Kaitlin Leck had 13 kills, and Paige Benjamin added 10 kills for the Huskies. Washington hit 34.7 percent as a team, while the Flames hit just 8.6 percent. Washington will take on Southeastern Louisiana in the early evening match, while the Falcons (1-4) will play Illinois-Chicago.
