Air Force Defeats VMI, 9-3

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Eight different Air Force players accounted for nine goals in a 9-3 victory over VMI in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The game was played at Rigg Miller Field on the base of the U.S. Naval Academy. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and improved the Falcons' record to 2-4 overall.
"It was a dominating performance by our team," head coach Fred Acee said. "We out-shot them 43 to 14. We played a great game and I am proud of our players' efforts."
Air Force opened the scoring with goals from sophomore midfielder Timothy Lorden and senior midfielder Matthew Dudderar. With just 39 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, VMI senior midfielder Ben Midura got the Keydets on the board with an unassisted goal, closing the gap to 2-1.
Air Force took control of the game in the second quarter with a four-goal outburst, including one from freshman midfielder Nathan Mariner, who notched his third goal in two games on a goal with 44 ticks left in the half to extend the Falcon lead to 6-2.
Sophomore attackman Dave Brown scored Air Force's final two goals of the game to become the Falcons' only multi-goal scorer of the game. VMI's sophomore midfielder Brian Niven (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) scored VMI's lone second half goal with 11:21 remaining in the fourth quarter off an assist from Midura.
Air Force made good on 19 of 20 clear attempts, with the only unsuccessful clear coming with just seconds remaining in the game.
Air Force will return home to face Notre Dame on Tuesday, April 2. Face-off is set for 4 p.m. MST.
