A Brief History
The Falcons and Dolphins are meeting for the 17th time with AF leading the all-time series, 9-7. Last time they played, Air Force took JU down, 15-12, in the ASUN Tournament semifinal at Jacksonville. Prior to that game the Dolphins were on a three-game winning streak against the Falcons. Air Force is 3-4 when playing JU at USAFA, the Dolphins winning the last three games played at the Academy.
A Look at the Dolphins
Jacksonville will take the field under the command of head coach John Galloway in his 10th season at the helm of the program. Galloway is a two-time Southern Conference coach of the year, both won while AF and JU battled each other in the SoCon era.
The Dolphins have four players with double-figure goals led by Jack Taylor with 17 goals and 21 assists—he also has 19 ground balls and 10 CTOs for the second-most on the team. Daylin John-Hill is second with 16 goals while teammate Zane Czechsin has 14.
Lucas Fraser leads the defense with 15 caused turnovers and 16 ground balls. In goal, Jacksonville graduate student goalie Ryan Della Rocco—a Tewaaraton Award watchlist player with an 8.54 GAA and .536 save percentage.
Turning it Around
Air Force snapped a six-game losing streak with an overtime win at Providence. Historically, at least since joining the ASUN Conference, the Falcons tend to turn the season around in conference play. Last season, AF turned a 2-6 non-conference schedule to an ASUN Tournament title and NCAA Championship appearance. In 2024, the Falcons were 1-4 in the non-conference schedule and made it to the ASUN Tournament semifinals.
Last Time Out
Air Force put up a season-high 18 goals on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, downing Providence in overtime, 18-17.
Senior team captain Caelan Driggs went postal on the Friars, scoring a career-best eight goals, becoming the first Falcon to achieve the feat since Mike Crampton in 2014. The Falcon attempted 13 shots on the game with nine coming on goal.
Freshman standout Christian Schweiger put a six-point performance for the third time this season, this time tallying to goals with four assists. He leads Air Force with 27 points while tying with Driggs for most goals at 16.
C4C Ben Heidt had a career day with a personal best four goals highlighted by the overtime game-winner. Heidt has scored in six-straight games and has 12 goals to his credit. Three other Falcons tallied goals in Luke Vrsansky, Lee Krotee, and AJ Serna. Krotee's goals marked the first of his collegiate career. Senior teammate Cole Rassas dished three assists in the offensive effort.
Matt Deedy was exceptional in goal, making a career-high 15 saves to fend off a high-powered Providence team.
Driggs Tabbed ASUN Player of the Week
Senior attacker, Caelan Driggs was named Offensive Player of the Week. He tallied a career-best eight goals to help snap the Falcons' six-game losing streak. He attempted 13 shots, nine of which were on goal and tallied a hat trick in the first quarter. Driggs is the first Falcon to score eight goals since Mike Crampton did it against Mercer in 2014. The honor marks Air Force's first weekly award of the season.
Caelan Driggs Aims for All-Time Goals Record
Senior attacker Caelan Driggs scored his 113th career goal last weekend. Driggs is now second in the all-time goals category. Mike Crampton (2011-14) holds the record with 127 to his credit. Driggs also has 133 career points, ranking eighth all-time.
Cunningham Moves into the Record Book
C1C Cole Cunningham, a groundball vacuum, has moved into the all-time top 10 ground balls leaders. Cunningham, with 39 this season and 169 career ground balls, is now seventh most. His 85 ground balls last season were enough for sixth in single-season ground balls.
Fantastic Freshman
C4C attacker Christian Schweiger is a force to be reckoned with heading into conference play. A native of Lebanon, New Jersey, Schweiger leads the Falcons with 27 points via 16 goals and 11 assists so far this season. He has four hat tricks in six appearances, including three-goal games against No. 5 Duke and No. 10 Ohio State.
A Look Ahead
The Falcons take flight to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on Bellarmine in ASUN Conference action. Face off at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium is slated for 12 p.m. ET. Air Force is 16-4 against the Knights all-time and 5-3 when playing in Kentucky. AF has won 11 of the last 12 meetings.
