The Air Force volleyball team suffered a three-game loss to San Diego State, falling on the road 3-0 (22-30, 22-30, 27-30). The Falcons couldn't overcome 20 attack errors and 10 service errors in the loss, which drops the team's record to 10-8 overall and 1-4 in the league.
"We made too many mistakes," head coach Penny Lucas-White said. "In order to beat a good team like San Diego State on there court, we needed to play virtually error-free volleyball. We didn't do that."
Game one was a back-and-forth battle. The Falcons looked to be in a strong position, taking a 19-16 lead on the strength of seven kills by Delavane Diaz, but the Aztecs rallied to score 14 of the next 17 points to take close out the game and garner the 30-22 lead. Of the eleven Falcons playing in the game, only two hit better than .000, as the team notched a .045 hitting percentage (12k-10e-45a).
The Falcons hit better in the second game (.290), but so did the Aztecs (.519). SDSU's Aspen McPartland notched seven kills in the 30-22 win, and the Aztecs took a 2-0 lead. In game three, Air Force held a three-point lead midway through the game (18-15) only watch the lead and hopes of a game-win slip away on the power hitting of McPartland and Megan Schauermann.
Diaz finished the game with a match-high 17 kills. Molly White had 11 kills on 20 attacks with just one error for a career-high .500 hitting percentage. Kristin Huitt had 39 assists and eight digs, while Jenalee Burke had nine digs to lead the team.
The loss extends the Falcons' losing streak to four matches. They look to put a stop to the snide, as the conference schedule continues next weekend as Air Force returns home to host Wyoming (Oct. 17) and Colorado State (Oct. 18).
