Falcons Down Competition In First Home Meet

U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams dominated their competition during their first home meet of the season Friday, Oct. 31, in the Cadet Gymnasium's Natatorium. In the men's dual meets, Air Force defeated Colorado College (166-56), Colorado School of Mines (156-70), Metro State College of Denver (161-46), and North Dakota (124-106). In the women's duals, the Falcons topped Colorado College (126-94), Colorado School of Mines (127-79), Metro State College of Denver (129-49), and North Dakota (122-110). Both Air Force teams improve to 5-0 in dual meet action on the season.
On the men's side, the team of seniors Paul Brehm, Eric Pounds, Casey Bowen, and freshman Andrew Bergman won the 200 medley relay. Newcomer Chris Knaute took first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:40.00. Sophomore Nick Burton won the 200 IM (2:01.77) followed by junior Evan Parr who finished second at the 2:01.83 mark. Parr took the top spot in the 100 backstroke (54.13) while Bowen finished with a time of 48.31 in the 100 freestyle to win the event. In the 1-meter diving, senior Ben Chapman finished first followed by senior Doug Hulse and freshman Daniel Phenicie who secured the second and third spots respectively for the Falcons. Hulse won the 3-meter diving and Phenicie took second.
On the women's side, the team of seniors Carly Baxter, Sara Crowell, junior Karen Long, and sophomore Carly Omizo finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.03 for the Falcons. Freshman Lauren White and junior Lara Styles finished first (1:59.10) and second (2:01.28) respectively in the 200 freestyle. Junior Andrea Hyma and freshman Lindsey Kirchoff took the top spots in the 50 freestyle while Crowell, newcomer Blair Leake and sophomore Colleen Smith held the top three spots in the 200 IM. Junior Michelle Hagar won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events Friday afternoon for the Falcons.
The Air Force men and women return to action Friday, Nov. 7 when they host a dual meet with in-state rivals Denver at the Cadet Gymnasium's Natatorium. The meet begins at 5 p.m. MST.
