The Air Force women's basketball team suffered a 71-66 loss to Boise State on Saturday in the consolation game of the Radisson Inn Air Force Classic. The loss drops the Falcons' record to 0-2 overall.
"It's very disappointing to lose two home games, but we improved this weekend," head coach Ardie McInelly said. "We competed the full 40 minutes of both games. I am proud of our team for never giving up and I know we are just going to get better and better."
The teams exchanged leads several times in a close first half. The Falcons fell behind by eight points before Letricia Castillo nailed consecutive three-pointers to cut the lead. Air Force trailed by just one point (31-30) at the end of the second half.
The Falcons took a one-point lead in the first minute of the second have but it would be their only lead of the half. The Broncos steadily increased their lead to double figures. Air Force would crawl their way back into the game and trailed by just three points late in the game, but the rally fell short.
Shawna Neff, Amoy Jackson and Letricia Castillo each had 16 points in the game. Castillo connected on 4-of-5 three-point attempts. Neff had eight rebounds, while Jackson added seven for the Falcons. Jennifer Roesch had six assists and Briana Thomas added a couple of blocks.
Air Force shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the field. Poor free throw shooting continued to plague the Falcons. The team was 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) for the game. They notched just three steals in the game and had 20 turnovers.
The Falcons will be on the road next week as the head to Chicago to take on Illinois State on Wednesday, Nov. 26th.
