Falcons Suffer Road Loss to New Orleans, 79-59

The Air Force women's basketball finished a disappointing two-game road trip with a 79-59 loss to New Orleans. The Falcons opened the game with a jumper, but it was their only lead of the game as the Privateers led nearly wire-to-wire. The Falcons fall to 0-4 overall, while New Orleans is unbeaten in three games.
Air Force got off to a slow start. The team notched 10 turnovers and eight missed shots in the first 10 minutes and trailed 18-5 at the midway mark of the first half. Despite trailing by 13 points, the Falcons never quit. The mounted a small comeback on a 7-0 run sparked by a Gwen Grove three-pointer. Air Force whittled the deficit to as few as four points, but the momentum shifted just before the half as the Privateers went on a 10-0 Privateers' run. They held a 37-26 advantage at the break.
A fast-break offense for New Orleans scored several quick buckets in the second half as the Privateers extended their lead to as much as 18 points. When Air Force started applying full-court pressure with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game, they were able to cut the lead to single digits in a matter of just minutes. They weren't able to maintain the pressure however and New Orleans pulled away in the end for the 20-point victory.
Freshman Letricia Castillo was 7-of-8 from the field to led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points. Shawna Neff added nine points, while Briana Thomas had six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Amoy Jackson had seven points and five rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Air Force shot 37.5 percent (11-of-30) from the field and 20.0 percent (2-of-10) from beyond the arc. They teams both had 42 rebounds. The Falcons had 24 turnovers (including 16 in the first half) and notched just six steals.
Air Force will be back on the road Dec. 4, when the team travels to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly. Their next home game will be on Dec. 6 against Illinios-Chicago.
