Rebels Down Falcons, 91-57

The UNLV Rebels showed why they lead the Mountain West in scoring as they totaled 91 points in a victory over the Air Force women's basketball team Thursday night at Clune Arena. RanDee Henry, the league's leading scorer, notched 24 points in the Rebel's 91-57 win. The Falcons remain winless in the conference, while UNLV is unbeaten in league play.
UNLV took control of the game early, using a 13-0 run to take a commanding 19-3 lead. Air Force committed nine turnovers in the span and after just eight minutes the Falcons trailed by 16 points. In an effort to get the team back in the game, Letricia Castillo nailed back-to-back three pointers. The Falcons used the cut the lead in half, but they couldn't maintain momentum and at the end of the half, the team trailed 49-36.
The Falcons played well offensively in the first half, shooting 56 percent from the field. Letricia Castillo had 16 points in the half alone. But they could not stop Henry, who had 15 points, and they could not hold onto the ball, tallying 16 first-half turnovers.
The Rebels continued to play well offensively in the second half. They quietly extended their lead to over 20 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half and then 30 points at the 6:05 mark. They never looked back, out-scoring the Falcons by 21 points in the half en route to their fourth league win. The 91 points surrendered by the Falcons is the most this season.
Henry finished the game with a double-double, notching 24 points and 12 rebounds. Sherry McCracklin and Sheena Moore each chipped in 14 points. UNLV shot 33-of-64 (51.6 percent) from the field and 22-of-36 (61.1 percent) from the charity stripe.
Castillo, who finished the game with 18 points, led the Falcons in scoring for the 10th time this year. Ashley Cwiakala added a career-high eight points. Shawna Neff led the team on the boards with seven rebounds. After committing less than 16 turnovers in each of the last games, the Falcons gave the ball away 30 times. The team shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the field.
The Falcons look to win their first conference game of the season on Saturday (Jan. 31) when they host San Diego State.
