Falcons Fall To Pioneers in Denver

DENVER - The Air Force women's gymnastics team dropped a dual meet to Denver on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Hamilton Gymnasium. The Falcons recorded a team total of 188.175, but couldn't overcome the Pioneers, who totaled 196.500.
The Pioneers dominated the meet, taking the top three spots (including ties) in every event, including the top six places on the balance beam.
Junior Jessa Liegl (Lincoln, Neb.) recorded the Falcons best place-finish of the night, as she tied for third on the vault with a score of 9.825. Denver's Heather Huffacker won the event with a perfect 10.000 score. Liegl also posted the top score by an Air Force gymnast on the floor exercise, matching her vault score with a 9.825.
Freshman Sashonna Iwaniec (Ligonier, Pa.) finished fifth on the balance beam with a 9.700, while sophomore Lauren Robison (Garner, N.C.) was the top Falcon finisher on the uneven bars with an eighth-place score of 9.200.
Air Force also gathered a top top-five score from senior Erin Maguire (Pocatello, Idaho), as she finished fifth on the floor exercise with a score of 9.800.
The Falcons head to the East Coast on Sunday, Feb. 1, for the first of two meetings this season against Rhode Island.
