The Air Force women's basketball team suffered its 16th consecutive loss on Saturday, falling to UNLV 85-48 at the Cox Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The Lady Rebels, the league's highest scoring team, had four players in double figures in scoring, led by RanDee Henry with 25 points. The Falcons fall to 3-22 overall and 0-12 in the league.
After five minutes of play, the Falcons held a 9-4 lead and were playing well. The Rebels then tightened up on defense and used a 14-0 run to take a nine-point lead. The Falcons had trouble defending Henry, the conference's leading scorer. She had 12 first half points, all in the paint, and the Rebels held a 41-23 advantage at the break.
The Lady Rebels continued to pour on the offense in the second half, gradually extending their lead to as much as 42 points. They shot 53 percent (35-of-62) from the field and had seven three-pointers in the win. Sheena Moore scored 18 points, while Infini Robinson had 11 points and Sherry McCracklin chipped in 14 points. Henry had 10 rebounds to go along with her 25 points for the double-double.
The Falcons shot 31 percent (19-of-61) from the field. They had 25 turnovers in the loss. Gwen Grove led the Falcons in scoring for the first time this season with 11 points. Letricia Castillo also notched double figures in scoring with 10 points. Briana Thomas led the team on the boards with seven rebounds. Air Force lost to the Rebels twice this year by an average of 35.5 points.
The Falcons will finish the regular season with two home games. They host Wyoming on Thursday (March 4), followed by Colorado State on Saturday (March 6). Saturday's match up will be the final home games in the careers of Shawna Neff, Amoy Jackson and Janea Childress.
