Air Force Finishes Sixth at MPSF Championships

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team recorded a team score of 192.525 to finish sixth at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships on Saturday, March 20, in San Jose, Calif.
Host San Jose State won the meet with a team score of 195.925. Cal State-Sacramento finished second with a score of 195.400, while Cal-Davis took third with a 194.350. Alaska-Anchorage tallied a 193.750 to finish fourth, while Seattle Pacific posted a 192.550 to edge out the Falcons for fifth.
Air Force had two gymnasts finish second in the conference championships. Junior Jessa Liegl (Lincoln, Neb.) posted a 9.825 to finish second - just .025 off of the event winner's score. Senior Erin Maguire (Pocatello, Idaho) tied for second on the vault, posting a score of 9.850 - again, just .025 off of the top score.
Maguire also tied for fourth on the floor exercise with a team-leading score of 9.925.
Freshman Sashonna Iwaniec (Ligonier, Pa.) led Air Force's four all-around competitors, posting a team score of 38.550 to finish in a tie for eighth. Iwaniec also recorded the Falcons' highest mark on the uneven bars - scoring a 9.600 to finish in a tie for 28th.
As a team, the Falcons finished third on the balance beam (48.000), fifth on the vault (48.225) and floor (49.100) and sixth on the uneven bars (47.200).
Up next for the Falcons is the NCAA Regional competition, which will be held on Saturday, April 3, in Denver.
