Jessa Liegl Earns USAG Champion Honors on Balance Beam

DENTON, Texas - Two members of the Air Force women's gymnastics team received distinguished individual accolades at the 2004 USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships on Saturday, April 10, in Denton, Texas. Junior Jessa Liegl (Lincoln, Neb.) was named USAG champion on the balance beam, while senior Erin Maguire (Pocatello, Neb.) was named USAG Senior Women's Gymnast of the Year.
Liegl garnered a 9.800 on the beam, en route to bringing the title back to the Academy for the fourth straight year. Former Falcon Allison Todd won the event in 2002 and 2003, after Bethany Stott started the title streak in 2001. In addition to winning the balance beam, Liegl also earned USAG All-America honors on the floor exercise. She finished in a tie for third, scoring another mark of 9.800.

Maguire collected a pair of USAG All-America honors in the event finals, backed by a third-place finish on the vault with a score of 9.775. She also finished seventh on the floor with a mark of 9.650. Both Maguire and Liegl, along with sophomore Lauren Robison (Garner, N.C.) earned their first career USAG All-America accolades on Thursday night, following top-eight finishes in the all-around.
Senior Laura Frank (Midland, Pa.) collected her second USAG All-America nod in as many years, as she finished tied for fifth on the vault with a score of 9.650. Last year, Frank finished within the top eight on the balance beam.
