Air Force Trio Performs Well at NCAA Regionals

DENVER, Colo. - Senior Rebecca Lewis (Plano, Texas), junior Jessa Liegl (Lincoln, Neb.) and sophomore Lauren Robison (Garner, N.C.) represented the Air Force women's gymnastics team at the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, April 3, in Denver, Colo.
Liegl recorded the highest finish of the night for the trio, taking a 37.775. Lewis finished with a combined score of 37.450, while Robison posted a total score of 37.175.
In the night's opening rotation, Lewis was the first Falcon to perform. Competing in the rotation with host Denver, Lewis posted a 9.325 on the uneven bars. Liegl, who was competing with the University of Iowa, posted a 9.000 on the floor. Robison was rotating with Washington and opened the evening on a bye.
The second rotation saw Liegl on vault, where she garnered a 9.675. Robison opened competition on the uneven bars with a score of 8.975. Lewis closed out the rotation with a 9.475 on the balance beam. Robison was the lone competitor in the third rotation, as both Lewis and Liegl had byes. Robison performed on the beam, gathering a score of 9.150.
The fourth rotation had Lewis on the floor, Liegl on the uneven bars and Robison on her second bye. Lewis registered a 9.600 from the judges on her floor routine, while Liegl tallied a 9.500 on the uneven bars.
All three Falcons competed in the fifth rotation. Lewis finished up her rotation on the vault, scoring a 9.050. Robison garnered a 9.625 on the floor, while Liegl concluded her night on the balance beam, earning a score of 9.600. Robison was again the lone Falcon competitor in the final rotation, scoring a 9.425 on the vault.
The top two teams from the North Central Region will move on to the national championships, as well as the top two all-around performers not on an advancing team. Stanford (196.575) and Iowa (195.700), will advance to UCLA following their first and second-place finishes.
The Falcons will team up once again next weekend (April 8-10) when they compete at the USA Gymnastics Championships in Denton, Texas. The Falcons will compete against UC-Davis, Centenary, Cornell, Seattle Pacific, Southern Connecticut, Temple and host Texas Woman's University in the team preliminaries on Thursday, April 8, at 4 p.m. The top four teams will advance to the finals on Friday, April 9, at 7 p.m.
