Nine Falcon Gymnasts Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

WOODLAND, Calif. - Nine members of the Air Force men's and women's gymnastics program were honored as Academic All-Conference scholar-athletes for the 2004 gymnastics season, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced today (May 28). Five women and four men were selected from the Falcon program, including six who won the award last year.
To be named to the Academic All-Conference team, the individual must be a sophomore who holds a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, while competing in at least 50 percent of the institution's competitions.
With a 3.83 in aeronautical engineering, junior Patrick McAndrew (Universal City, Texas) posted the highest cumulative grade point average of the 15 honorees from the MPSF men's program. It is the second consecutive year that McAndrew has earned Academic All-MPSF honors.
Senior Matthew Joseph (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and junior Kent Reichle (Cambridge, Minn.) are also making their second straight appearance on the conference list. Joseph will graduate with a 3.23 in electrical engineering, while Reichle holds a 3.17 in aeronautical engineering. Senior Noah Rich (Ropesville, Texas) rounds out the Air Force contingent, with a 3.03 in meteorology.
On the women's side, junior Diane Godar (Conroe, Texas) recorded the team's top GPA, with a 3.50 in biochemistry. Godar is making a repeat appearance on the all-conference scholar athlete list, as are seniors Tammy Ritchey (Plano, Texas) and Laura Frank (Midland, Pa.). Ritchey will graduate with a 3.30 GPA in aeronautical engineering, while Frank holds a 3.23 in mathematics.
Senior Erin Maguire (Pocatello, Idaho) was nominated with a 3.07 in civil engineering, while sophomore Lauren Robison (Garner, N.C.) earned her first nod to the all-MPSF academic team with a 3.02 GPA in biology.
