NORMAN, Okla. -- Despite posting the best team total of the season, the Air Force men's gymnastics team dropped a 218.700-188.000 match to No. 4 Oklahoma on Friday, Jan. 28, in Norman, Okla. The 188.000 is the Falcons' best score of the season by nearly three points. Air Force also posted top team scores on the floor, still rings and parallel bars in the loss.
The Sooners took the top six spots in three of the six events, while taking five of the top six in the remaining three. Junior Eric Peele (Bethel, N.C.) was the only Falcon to break into the top five on any individual event, placing fifth on the parallel bars with a score of 8.600 -- the best bars score of the season for Air Force.
Sophomore Kurt Antonio (Rio Rancho, N.M.) took sixth on the event with a score of 8.150, while freshman Nathan Glandon (Abilene, Texas) claimed sixth on the floor (8.650) and still rings (7.700) Glandon's mark on the floor was also the team's best score of the season.
Freshman Brian Boardman (Naperville, Ill.) was the Falcons' top scorer on the pommel horse, scoring a 7.500 to finish seventh, while senior Kent Reichle (Cambridge, Minn.) had the team's best vault score at 8.500 to finish seventh. Freshman Tyler Sickles (Mesa, Ariz.) scored an 8.200 on the high bar to lead the squad with a seventh-place finish.
Antonio won the all-around with a season-best 46.200, beating out Peele, who posted a 45.650.
Air Force is off from competition until Saturday, Feb. 12, when it travels to Annapolis, Md., for the annual service-academy match-up with Army and Navy. The meet is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
