Falcons Take Third in Academy Triad

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The No. 19 Air Force men's gymnastics team finished third at the All-Academy Championships with a score of 186.400 on Saturday (Feb. 12) in Annapolis, Md. Sophomore Ryan Stromstad (Corona, Calif.) had the team's best finish of the night, placing third on the floor with a season-high 8.800.
In the annual tri-meet of the service academies, Army picked up its fifth straight title with a score of 210.400. Navy finished second with 206.400 points, while Air Force took third.
Stromstad led a quartet of Falcons that scored above 8.000 on the floor. Behind his score of 8.800, freshman Nathan Glandon (Abilene, Texas) scored an 8.250, while Tyler Sickles (Mesa, Ariz.) and Kurt Antonio (Rio Rancho, N.M.) posted respective scores of 8.100 and 8.050.
Junior Eric Peele (Bethel, N.C.) recorded the second-best finish of the night, scoring an 8.250 on the parallel bars.
Freshman Brian Boardman (Naperville, Ill.) had one of five ninth-place finishes for the Falcons. Boardman posted the team's top mark on the pommel horse with a score of 7.800, while Sickles scored an 8.050 on the high bar for another ninth-place finish. Glandon, Stromstad and sophomore Edwin Berry (El Cajon, Calif.) all tied for ninth on the vault with matching scores of 8.650.
The entire vault lineup garnered scores above 8.000 during the rotation.
Antonio also scored the team's top mark on the still rings with a 12th-place score of 7.550.
Air Force returns home next weekend (Feb. 19) when they host Stanford at 1:00 p.m., in the Cadet West Gym.
