Falcons Fare Well at All-Comers Meet

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force track and field team opened the 2006 season with a strong showing at the annual Air Force All-Comers Meet on Friday, Jan. 13. Three Falcons made adjustments to the all-time record books, while 16 claimed top-three finishes.
Sophomore Travis Picou (Spring Valley, Calif.) and freshman Addison Schenk (Casa Grande, Ariz.) picked up first-place finishes, as Picou won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.37 -- just shy of his personal best time from last season. In his collegiate debut, Schenk won the long jump with a mark of 22'7?". Picou also picked up a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash (6.90), while Schenk took second in the triple jump (47'1").
Billy Flynt (Platte City, Mo.) picked up a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash behind Picou, clocking a time of 22.69. John Payne (Tupelo, Miss.) claimed a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.45, while the 4x400-yard relay team of Flynt, Brian Walsh (Redlands, Calif.), Picou and Nick Luina (Yorktown, Va.) took third in 3:27.32.
From the field, Walsh picked up third-place finishes in the high jump (6'2?") and pole vault (15'7"), while Bryan Jones (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) set a personal-best throw of 53'11" in the shot put to finish third and jump from 10th to sixth on the program's all-time list.
On the women's side, the 4x400-yard relay team of Jen Neville (Cold Spring, N.Y.), Kim Brady (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Genelle Chapman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Kelly Robinson (Holt, Mich.) won the race with a time of 4:18.27. Robinson also claimed a second-place finish in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:21.69.
Amy Gilliland (Tyrone, Pa.) cleared a personal-best 10'11?" to finish third in the pole vault. The mark, which matched the best height of the evening, is the third-best mark in Academy history. Casey Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished third in the triple jump with a career-best distance of 37'4" to move into sixth on the Academy's all-time list. Johnson also picked up third-place honors in the long jump with a jump of 17'6?".
In other news from the Air Force All-Comers Meet: Current Cadet Field House record holder in the pole vault (19'0?"), Pat Manson of the Invaders Racing Club, cleared 18'0?". It marks the 21st consecutive year that Manson has cleared at least 18 feet...competing as an unattached athlete, former Falcon high jumper and current Officer Representative for the team Capt Rob Mischev cleared a 6'2?" -- the second-best jump of the night...2005 graduate and current World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) athlete 2Lt Paul Gensic finished second in the pole vault behind Manson with a top mark of 16'6?".
The Falcons hit the road next weekend when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the Adidas Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21.
