BIG 12/MOUNTAIN WEST CHALLENGE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: The Big 12/Mountain West Conference Challenge gets underway at 11 a.m. with the women's weight throw. The women's long jump, high jump and pole vault all get underway 15 minutes later. The first track event - the women's 5000-meter run - is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m.
THE CHALLENGE: Each school will be permitted two entries per event. Since there are three Big 12 teams competing, compared to just two MWC teams, one Big 12 school will be considered the `wild card' during each event and its score will not count in the overall total. Each first-place finisher will receive five points, while every runner-up will earn two points. In the individual events, third-place finishers will get two points and fourth-place athletes will earn one point. The team totals will be combined throughout the meet, with one conference team being declared the winner.
RECAPPING THE ALL-COMERS MEET: Picking up six victories, Air Force opened the 2007 season hosting the annual All-Comers Meet at the Academy on Jan. 13. The Falcons collected 30 top-five finishes, highlighted by eight events that included at least two Falcons within the top five. With a shot put distance of 44'0½", freshman Sara Neubauer guided an Air Force sweep of the top three spots in that event, while classmate Melissa Beerse did the same in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 11'5¾". Fellow frosh Danielle McCarty led a one-two Falcons' punch in the triple jump with a 36'10½".
A MEET FILLED WITH "CLASS":
WHAT A START!: During the season-opening All-Comers Meet, five field athletes made an impact on the Academy's All-Time Record Book. More impressively, four of those athletes were freshmen competing in their first collegiate meet! With a height of 11'5¾", Melissa Beerse vaulted all the way into third on the pole vault's all-time list, while classmate Megan Miller made her pole vault debut with the fourth-best time in Academy history at 10'11¾". Fellow frosh Sara Neubauer debuted fourth in the shot put (44'0¼") best times, while Danielle McCarty moved into eighth in the triple jump (36'10½") standings. In addition, senior Dierra
