AZUSA, Calif. – Backed by three Air Force Top 5 marks, a dozen members of the Falcons' track team wrapped up action at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a 1500-meter distance carnival tonight (April 18), under the lights of Cougar Stadium in Azusa. Overall, the group made six improvements to the Academy's all-time standings during the final event of the three-day meet.
The junior duo of Cam Bodine and Anna Harden continued to rewrite the record book on Saturday, as the pair posted Air Force Top 5 marks in the 1500-meter run – one night after producing the program's second-fastest 800-meter time (Bodine) and sixth-fastest 5000-meter time (Harden).
Competing in the "Invitational" section, Bodine clocked third-fastest time in Air Force history to easily win her heat – a 4:17.99 finish that knocked 4.28 seconds off an Air Force Junior Class Record that Carina Gillespie had held since 2017. Haden added a 4:20.48 finish to vault up to No. 5 on the program's all-time standings, as the pair finished 25th and 44th, respectively, in a field of 128.
Fellow junior Scarlet Fetterolf, competing in the "Open A" section late Saturday, posted a career-best time of 4:28.11 to finish 34th out of 169 runners and move up to No. 16 on the Academy's all-time standings.
In this afternoon's "Open B" section, classmate Ella Johnson returning to the track after competing in the 5000-meter run at 11:00 p.m. last night to clock a 4:33.96 in her event debut to finish 45th in a field of nearly 200 runners.
On the men's side, sophomore Junior Allen recorded the fifth-fastest time in Air Force history (3:41.93) during a top-25 finish in the "Invitational" field that featured more than 150 runners. The sophomore finished just two spots ahead of senior Ben Scheller (24th, 3:42.13), while junior Dominykas Remeikis clocked a career-best time of 3:42.99 to debut at No. 11 on the program's all-time standings and finish 32nd in the meet. Senior Ethan Ashley moved up to No. 13 following a career-best time of 3:43.98, while sophomore Patrick Allen registered a time of 3:46.57 that would have been an Air Force Top 25 mark prior to tonight and currently stands at No. 27 on the program's extended listing.
Freshman Christopher Creedon, racing in his first out-of-state meet, clocked a career-best time of 3:47.98 to finish top-50 (47th) in a 170-runner "Open A" that close out a full day of 1500-meter racing at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The Falcons are back in action next week (April 22-25), when they travel to the Blue Oval in Des Moines, Iowa, for the 116th running of the Drake Relays.
Former Academy standout Sam Gilman, currently representing the Air Force World Class Athlete Program and Nike, easily won the "Elite" section behind a personal-best 1500-meter time of 3:34.65.
