Flynn, Volkening named AHA Players of the Week

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Two Air Force hockey players earned Atlantic Hockey Association Player of the Week honors in Air Force's sweep of 14th-ranked Quinnipiac, Oct. 19-20, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
Junior defenseman Greg Flynn (Lino Lakes, Minn.) was named the AHA Player of the Week. He scored his first goal of the season to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead on Friday. AFA never trailed in the game. On Saturday, he assisted on AFA's first goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead, a lead the team never relinquished. He then scored AFA's third goal of the game. Flynn already has more goals this season (two) than in his previous two years (one goal in 57 games). Along with his offensive production, Flynn's solid defensive play held the No. 14 team in the nation to just 49 shots in two games.
Sophomore Andrew Volkening (Genoa, Ill.) was named the AHA Goalie of the Week. Volkening allowed just two goals in the two-game series vs. Quinnipiac. On Friday, he allowed jus one goal while making 26 saves in a 3-1 win. On Saturday, he allowed just one goal while making 22 saves in a 4-1 win. Volkening has a 2-0 record on the season with a 1.00 GAA and a .959 saves percentage.
Air Force is 2-0 overall this season and is receiving votes in both national polls. Based on the number of votes, the Falcons are ranked 21st in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and the USCHO/CSTV national polls. The Falcons open AHA play this weekend with a two-game series at Bentley, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 26-27, in Waltham, Mass.
