USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force senior Kelly Lewis will serve as the captain for the 2008 women's gymnastics team, head coach Doug Day announced. Lewis, a two-year letterwinner for the Falcons, will provide solid leadership to a young Air Force squad that features just four juniors and seniors, compared to nine sophomores and freshmen.
Although she missed her sophomore season with injury, Lewis is no stranger to the gymnastics' post-season. A vault participant at the NCAA Regional Championships as a freshman, she also competed on the event at the USA Gymnastics Championships last year. She is also a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation academic all-conference member.
"Kelly is doing a great job as this year's captain," Day commented during the team's off-season conditioning.
She is the second member of her family to hold the team captaincy, as her older sister Rebecca (Class of 2004) held the same position as a senior.
