USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force seniors Brian Boardman and Kevin Murphy will serve as co-captains for the 2008 men's gymnastics team, head coach Kip Simons announced. This is Boardman's second season to hold captaincy, while it is Murphy's first. It is the 10th time in the Falcons' 52-year history that a pair of gymnasts has shared the honor of team captain.
Boardman, the 2007 Most Valuable Gymnast, is a two-time academic honoree of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Collegiate Gymnastics Association. A captain on last season's squad, he was selected to compete at the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.
Murphy competed in nine meets for the Falcons, including the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and USA Gymnastics Championships. As a junior, he improved his career-best total on the still rings at the All-Academy meet.
The Falcons kick off the season on Friday, Dec. 7, with the Blue and Silver Intrasquad Meet. The official season begins on Saturday, Jan. 12, with the annual Rocky Mountain Open.
