Seven Victories Highlight Outdoor Opener

Air Force took two of the top three spots in a pair of events. Junior Travis Picou crossed the finish line in a regional qualifying time of 21.04 to win the 200-meter dash, while senior Nick Luina finished third behind a time of 21.53. Sophomore Harmon Gage won the javelin throw with a career-best 191'6", while senior Brandon Murphy took third with a distance of 175'11".
In addition, junior John Payne and sophomore Kirk Devine claimed event victories. Payne took first in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 55.26, while Devine won the discus throw with a toss of 169'7". Devine's distance is a regional qualifying mark and the eighth-best distance in Academy history. In addition, Devine finished fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 176'2". That mark is ninth on the Academy's all-time list.
Sophomore Kellen Curry finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.79, while senior Nick Luina took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.38. In addition, junior Erik Mirandette finished second in the pole vault after clearing 14'7¼".
Classmate Matt Gensic finished third in the pole vault with a height of 13'1½", while sophomore Skylar Morgan cleared 6'2¾" in the high jump to take third. Junior Devin Hart picked up a third-place finish in the long jump (21'4¼"), while Kevin Hawkins earned the same finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:07.72. Sophomore Parker Cowles placed fifth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:06.94.
On the women's side, senior Olivia Korte picked up a pair of first-place finishes. She took the top spot in the shot put with a distance of 45'7¾" and won the discus throw behind a throw of 167'2" - a regional qualifying mark that was over 17 feet better than the runner-up. In addition, she picked up a third-place mark in the hammer, behind a throw of 156'2".
The Falcons also received a first-place finish from senior Casey Johnson, who won the triple jump with a distance of 38'5½". She was also the runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 17'6¼".
Air Force had one incursion into the all-time record book in the women's javelin, as senior Casey Bayne finished third with a regional qualifying throw of 154'6". That is the third-best throw in Academy history. Junior Tiffany Moore recorded a distance of 128'8" to take fifth in the event.
Sophomore Michelle Fryling improved her position in the all-time pole vault standings, as she cleared a career-best 11'1". That mark, which improved her fourth-place ranking in the program's record book, is a new Sophomore Class record.
Senior Kim Brady clocked a time of 67.10 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish fourth.
