Greg Stine Claims Two USAG National Event Titles

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Fresh off his all-around title yesterday, Air Force junior Greg Stine (Houston, Texas) earned two individual event titles this afternoon (March 25) as the men's gymnastics team concluded competition at the USA Gymnastics National Collegiate Championships in Williamsburg, Va.

Stine picked up USAG national titles on the floor exercise and still rings, backed by matching scores of 9.300 on each event. Including yesterday's win in the all-around, Stine becomes the first Air Force gymnast to ever win three events at a single USAG competition. The three wins today brings his career total of USAG national titles to an Academy-best five (he won the all-around and pommel horse in 2004).

In addition to his three victories, Stine collected USAG All-America honors on two other events with fourth-place finishes on the pommel horse (7.600) and high bar (8.450).

Stine was one of six Falcons to collect USAG All-America honors. As a team, the Falcons accounted for 11 USAG All-America citations, based on finishes with the top-six of each event. It is the most Falcons to earn USAG All-America honors since 2001, when seven gymnasts earned that distinction. In addition, the 11 total honors are the most ever for an Air Force squad.

Sophomore Jacob Schonig (Los Gatos, Calif.) earned a third-place finish on the still rings, while junior Tyler Sickles (Burke, Va.) claimed the same placement on the high bar. Schonig, who is in just his second year of competitive gymnastics, scored an 8.800 on the rings for the third-place finish. Sickles nearly matched his season-best total on the high bar, as he tallied a score of 8.500 from the judges.

Junior Brian Boardman (Naperville, Ill.) finished fifth on the vault with a score of 7.900, while freshman Brennan Wolford tallied a sixth-place mark of 8.350 on the floor exercise. In addition, Wolford earned USAG All-America honors based on his fourth-place performance in Saturday's all-around competition, while senior Kurt Antonio (Rio Rancho, N.M.) claimed his honor with a fifth-place mark.

Wolford and Sickles also competed on two other apparatuses during the individual event finals. Wolford tallied a 7.200 on the vault to finish seventh, while Sickles scored a 6.850 on the parallel bars to take ninth. Sophomore Josiah Loeser (Alvin, Texas) placed seventh on the parallel bars with a score of 7.550 and freshman Garrett Canter (Tallahassee, Fla.) scored a 7.050 on the pommel horse to take eighth.

Air Force returns to action on Saturday, March 31, when it travels to Berkeley, Calif., for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
