Air Force Takes Second at Southwest Cup

TEMPE, Ariz. - In its second meet in as many days, the No. 17 Air Force men's gymnastics team finished second at the Southwest Cup on Friday, March 2, in Tempe, Ariz. Seven different Falcons collected 17 top-10 finishes, including a team-best second-place finish on the floor exercise from junior Greg Stine (Houston, Texas).

Temple, which is ranked 12th in the nation, won the meet with a score of 204.750. Host and club-team powerhouse Arizona State took third with a combined mark of 181.350.

Highlighted by a second-place score of 9.000 on the floor exercise, Stine collected four top-10 finishes. With that score, Stine becomes just the second Falcon to reach the 9.000 plateau this season. In addition, he finished third on the vault (8.600) and tied for fourth on the high bar (8.200), while also tying for ninth on the still rings (8.200).

Classmate Brian Boardman (Naperville, Ill.) also picked up a quartet of top-10 marks. Boardman picked up a team-best fourth-place score of 8.050 on the parallel bars, while also taking a sixth-place finish on the pommel horse (7.650). He also placed eighth on the floor (8.250) and tied for the same finish on the vault (8.100).

Freshman Brennan Wolford (Thornville, Ohio), who placed fourth in the all-around with a score of 44.850, also placed ninth on the floor (8.200) and 10th on the parallel bars (7.650).

Two other Falcons picked up a pair of top marks. Junior Tyler Sickles earned seventh-place finishes on both the parallel bars (7.750) and high bar (8.050), while freshman Garrett Canter (Tallahassee, Fla.) placed eighth on the pommel horse (7.350) and ninth on the high bar (7.800).

Rounding out Air Force's top-10 finishers was sophomore Josiah Loeser (Alvin, Texas) and senior Kurt Antonio (Rio Rancho, N.M.). Loeser scored a 7.900 on the parallel bars to take fifth, while Antonio tied for 10th on the vault with a score of 8.050.

The Falcons return to action on March 9-11, when they head to Chicago, Ill., for a pair of dual meets with Illinois-Chicago.
