Seniors Dan Nwaelele, Jacob Burtschi and Matt McCraw and junior Tim Anderson were selected to the Mountain West Conference all-conference team Monday by league coaches and media. Nwaelele was a first-team pick while Burtschi was selected to the second team. McCraw and Anderson earned honorable mention.
Nwaelele, from Bothell, Wash., leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game, and field-goal percentage at 53 percent. He is No. 2 on AFA's career list for three-point percentage at 45.9 percent and is third on the all-time free-throw percentage list at 84.8 percent. He became the 21st player in school history with 1,000 career points last Tuesday against BYU. Nwaelele was an honorable mention pick last season.
Burtschi, meanwhile, earned his second consecutive second-team selection. He is second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 5.6 per game. The Chickasha, Okla., native is 11th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,131 points and is the school record holder with 120 games played.
McCraw, from Lakewood, Calif., is the school's career leader in three-point percentage at 46.2 percent and No. 2 in career free-throw shooting at 86.3 percent. He became the fifth player in school history to make 200 three-pointers in his career earlier this season. McCraw is third on the team in scoring, averaging 11 points per game, and rebounding, pulling down 3.5 boards per contest and leads the conference in free-throw shooting at 91.9 percent.
Anderson, meanwhile, is averaging 9.1 points per game and leads the squad with 84 assists and 51 steals. He is shooting 50.6 percent from the field and is third in the MWC in free-throw percentage at 84.8 percent.
The Falcons open play in the Mountain West Conference Championships on Thursday, March 8 against the Wyoming Cowboys. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (PT) at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
