Weekly Release 11 - at USAG Championships

SCHEDULING 101: Action begins on Thursday (April 19) with two rounds of preliminary competition. The top two teams from each first-round division will advance to the team finals on Friday, April 20, while the top five individuals (and ties) from each event in each section will compete in the event finals on Saturday, April 21.
HISTORY 101: Air Force had six USAG champions in seven events during the 2000-04 seasons. In addition, the Falcons claimed the team title in 2001 and again in 2002. Sashonna Iwaniec is the only current Air Force gymnast to earn USAG All-America honors.
"ALL" THE DETAILS: Sashonna Iwaniec, who earned USAG All-America honors in the all around in 2005, is ranked 12th in the USAG standings (Regional Qualifying Score of 37.420) and will rotate with
BEAM ME UP: Just two gymnasts are invited to compete as a specialist in each of the individual events, giving Air Force both balance beam competitors. Christine Powers holds a regional qualifying mark of 9.350, while Kayla Kincade's average is 9.460. Powers will compete in the first session with
AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST: With a vault RQS of 9.510, Kelly Lewis will participate with Cornell's vaulters in the 3 p.m. session.
THIS LOOKS FAMILIAR: This will be the second time in as many meets that the Falcons have competed in a championship meet in
ALL-CONFERENCE KIDS: Five Falcons were named to the MPSF all-conference team, the league announced April 3. Sashonna Iwaniec led the team with three first-team distinctions and was one of three Falcons to earn mention on the league's first team. Iwaniec earned first-team honors on the vault, uneven bars and all-around, while collecting second accolades on the floor exercise. Abigail Rogers claimed three all-conference honors, including a first-place nod on the floor exercise.
LAST TIME OUT: With six top-10 finishes, Air Force picked up a fourth-place finish at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on March 30. Senior Christine Powers led the Falcons with a pair of top-10 marks, including a fourth-place score on the balance beam. Powers scored a 9.650 on the balance beam to take fourth - the best individual event finish of the night. In addition, Powers led the Falcons on the parallel bars, as she tallied a 9.575 to take ninth.
