Hamden, Conn. - In its conference opener, the Air Force lacrosse team scored 11 unanswered goals to secure a 16-9 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday morning. The Falcons move to 2-5 on the season with the win, 1-0 in the Great Western Lacrosse League, while the Bobcats fall to 3-5, 0-3 in the league.
Quinnipiac controlled the action for most of the first half, scoring four of the game's first five goals. Though a pair of man-up scores by the Falcons' Conrad Lochocki (Sr., Chalfont, Pa.) cut Air Force's deficit to 4-3 at the end of the opening period, the Bobcats jumped back out to a 7-4 advantage with 8:13 remaining in the second quarter. However, Air Force scored four straight goals to grab an 8-7 lead at the break.
Air Force was even more impressive in the third period, outscoring Quinnipiac 7-0. While the Bobcats scored the first two goals of the final period, the Falcons capped off the game with a score from senior Will Meister (Denver, Colo.) to take the 16-9 victory.
Junior Kevin Crumrine (Edgewater, Md.) was Air Force's leading scorer with five goals and one assists, while sophomore Griffin Nevitt (Charlotte, N.C.) added three goals and three assists. Back-up goalkeeper Dan Gnazzo (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied 14 saves and just two goals against in just over 33 minutes of action.
