Air Force Drops Season Finale To Second-Ranked Duke

Durham, N.C. - In its final game of the season, the Air Force lacrosse team was unable to pull off the upset over No. 2 Duke, falling, 19-6, Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium. The Falcons end their season at 2-10 overall, while the Blue Devils improve to 14-2 on the year.
Duke took the early 1-0 lead before senior Michael Weber (Wantagh, N.Y.) tied it up for the Falcons with a goal at the 7:40 mark. The Blue Devils then went on a 3-0 run to grab the 4-1 advantage early in the second quarter. With a pair of goals from Griffin Nevitt (So., Charlotte, N.C.) and Conrad Lochocki (Sr., Chalfont, Pa.), the Falcons came with two points at 5-3, but Duke closed out the half with three unanswered scores to take an 8-3 lead at intermission.
After an early third period goal by Duke extended the Blue Devil advantage to 9-3, junior Kevin Crumrine (Edgewater, Md.) put the Falcons back on the board. However, Duke scored 10 of the next 11 goals to take a commanding 19-5 advantage before Lochocki closed out the scoring with a man-up goal at the 1:07 mark in the final period.
While Air Force managed to convert on just 2-of-7 extra-man opportunities, Duke went 5-of-7 on the EMO, scoring on all five second-half chances. The Blue Devils also outshot the Falcons 47-37 in the game, and scooped up 47 ground balls.
Crumrine had two goals and an assist to lead the Falcons, while senior Will Meister (Denver, Colo.) added three assists. Meister concludes his career with 84 assists, ranking tied for sixth on the Falcons' all-time list. Lochocki added two goals, Weber notched a goal and an assist and Nevitt scored the final goal for the Falcons. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Daniel Bellissimo (Glen Cove, N.Y.) tallied a career-high 17 saves for Air Force.
For the Blue Devils, Zack Greer recorded five goals and three assists, while Matt Danowski added three goals and three assists.
