
No. 10 Ohio State Takes Down Air Force, 14-9

USAF ACADEMY – A late Air Force rally came up short in the 14-9 loss against No. 10 Ohio State, Saturday afternoon, at Falcon Stadium. The Buckeyes remain undefeated at 4-0 while Air Force drops to 1-2 in the early season.
AF freshman attacker Christian Schweiger had a career performance, scoring six points on three goals and three assists, marking his second hat trick this season and season high assist count. Schweiger has scored a goal in every game so far this year. He led the team with a game-high eight shots.
For the third time in as many tries, Air Force outshot the opponent, this time taking 35 (22) shots to the Buckeyes' 33 (20).
Falcon LSM Cole Cunningham was exception in the midfield, causing four turnovers while scooping up six ground balls. Air Force, leading the nation in caused turnovers heading into today's game, caused nine of Buckeyes' 15 turnovers. Freshman defender Jack Gounaris tallied two CTOs in the effort.
Three Air Force goalies saw action, led by Matt Deedy who got the start and made four saves against six goals allowed. Nolan Parlette, in his season debut, made one save but gave up five goals. In his collegiate debut, freshman Kyle Morris made one save against three goals allowed.
Air Force struggled to get the offense going, scoring just two goals in the first half behind the effort of Schweiger who scored the goals. Caelan Driggs and Alex Rismani dished the assists, respectively.
Coming out of the halftime break trailing 7-2, Air Force dropped to the largest deficit of the game as Ohio State built a 10-3 lead with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter. Schweiger notched his hat trick goal while Ben Heidt scored his first collegiate goal with help from Schweiger.
As the Ohio State reserves took the field, the Falcons found some traction to outscore the Buckeyes, 5-3, in the final quarter. Cole Rassas, Henry Spencer, and Luke Vrsansky combined for the five goals. Air Force was unable to run them down before the final horn.
Next up, the Falcons take next weekend off in exchange for a Tuesday afternoon meeting at Sienna on February 24. It has been 14 years since the teams last met. Air Force controls the all-time series, 5-2, but lost the last two meetings in 2011 (7-6) and 2010 (5-2).
