The Air Force water polo team is ranked 17th in the National Men's Top 20 Varsity preseason poll, released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). Last season's national runner-up, USC, was selected as the unanimous number one pick, ahead of 2006 champion Cal.
Air Force, which finished the 2006 season with a 14-17 overall record and national ranking of 17, received 20 points in the balloting. Six other teams from the Western Water Polo Association join the Falcons in the preseason top 20, including UC San Diego (8), Loyola Marymount (10), UC Davis (11), Santa Clara (16), Pomona-Pitzer (19) and UC Santa Cruz (20).
The Falcons, led by senior captains Justin Berry and Clark Condict, start out the 2007 season Sept. 1-2, when they head to the Triton Invitational, hosted by WWPA rival UC San Diego.
