LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Junior Jack Hines was named the Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week, as released by the conference this afternoon. It marks the first weekly conference honor for Hines and the first for an Air Force player since the award was started in 2007.
Hines, a native of Riverside, Calif., helped Air Force continue its seven-game winning streak, scoring seven goals in two games against Iona this past weekend. He registered two goals and an assist in the Falcons' 15-8 victory on Saturday. Meanwhile, Hines, a 2-meter defender, added a career-high five scores in Air Force's 17-5 rout of Iona on Sunday, as the Falcons handed Iona its biggest loss of the season.
Hines also had a huge impact defensively, locking down Iona's leading scorer, Joe Przekota. Przekota, who entered the weekend ranked second in the nation in total goals scored, was limited to just two goals for the weekend, one of which came on a penalty shot.
Hines and the rest of the Falcons head back out to the West Coast this weekend, Oct. 25-26, for four contests, including three against nationally ranked opponents. Air Force, ranked 20th in the latest coaches poll, takes on No. 12 Santa Clara and Cal Baptist on Saturday, followed by games with No. 10 Long Beach State and No. 11 UC Davis on Sunday.
