Volkening named AHA Co-Goalie of the Week

USAFA, Colo. - Air Force junior Andrew Volkening was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Co-Goalie of the Week for his performance in the series sweep at Holy Cross, Nov. 14-15. The award is the second for Volkening this season and the fifth of his career. The weekly honor is the fifth for Air Force this season.
Volkening allowed just one goal in 124 minutes of action in a two-game league sweep of the Crusaders. The only goal he allowed all weekend was in a 5-on-3 power-play situation. Volkening stopped 37 of the 38 shots he faced in the series for a 0.48 goals-against average and a .974 saves percentage. On Friday, he posted his second shutout of the season, and seventh of his career, as he stopped all 12 shots in a 1-0 overtime win. On Saturday, he made 25 saves in the 5-1 win. The Genoa, Ill., native ranks fifth in the nation in GAA at 1.29 and is eighth in the nation in saves percentage at .941. In 10 games this season, he has given up just nine even-strength goals.
Air Force is 10-0-0 this season and in first place in the AHA with an 8-0-0 record. The Falcons are ranked 12th in both the USCHO/CBS College Sports and USA Today/USA Magazine national polls. Air Force is No. 11 in the InsideCollegeHockey.com power rankings. All three rankings are the highest national rankings in school history in these polls.
The Falcons host Sacred Heart in a two-game league series, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 21-22, at the Cadet Ice Arena. Friday's faceoff is at 7:05 p.m. MT while Saturday's game starts at 7:35 p.m.
