Rankings Air Force is in both national polls for the first time in school history. The Falcons are ranked 14th in both the USCHO/CBS College Sports poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey magazine poll. Air Force has been receiving votes in both polls all season. The Falcons entered the USCHO/CBS College Sports poll on Oct. 27 at No. 17. Air Force is also No. 10 this week on Inside Hockey.com.
Inside the Rankings Air Force's No. 14 national ranking ties as the highest ever by an Atlantic Hockey or MAAC team. Late in the 2005-06 season, Holy Cross was No. 14 in the USA Hockey/USA Magazine poll. The ranking is the highest ever by a team not from one of the "Big Four" conferences (WCHA, CCHA, ECAC and Hockey East) since Niagara was No. 11 in both polls late in the 1999-00 season.
8-0 First Time Since ... Air Force's 8-0 start matches the best start in school history. The 1971-72 team also opened with an 8-0 start en route to a school-record 25 victories. The 8-0 start this season marks the best start in school history vs. Division I teams.
School-Record Winning Streak The eight-game winning streak is the longest in school history vs. Division I teams. The previous long was a six-game Division I winning streak in the 2006-07 championship season. The school record winning streak vs. teams from all divisions is 10 games set in 1975.
And Then There Was One Air Force is the only undefeated and untied team in the nation that has played more than one game. Harvard, Princeton and Yale are all 1-0.
The FLO Line The Falcons' line of Frider, Lamoureux and Olson has dominated this season. The "FLO" line is the top scoring line in the nation. Jacques Lamouruex leads the nation with 19 points. Brent Olson is second in the nation with 17 points while Josh Frider is fourth in the country with 12 points. Air Force has scored 41 goals in the eight games and the FLO line has scored 21 of them. The trio ranks 1-2-3 in the league in scoring.
Colorado - HockeyState College hockey has never been better in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. Colorado has three college hockey programs (Air Force, Colorado College and Denver) and all three made the NCAA Tournament last season. This season, all the three are in the top 15 in the nation and have a combined 17-2-4 record as Air Force is 8-0, Colorado College is 5-0-3 and Denver is 4-2-1. No state in the country has more teams in the top 15 than Colorado. Colorado College is No. 1 in both major poll. Denver is No. 6 and Air Force is No. 14. Massachusetts also has three teams in the top 15 (Boston College/2; Boston University/4 and Northeastern/10). Minnesota (Minnesota/4; Minnesota State/13) and Michigan (Michigan/7; Michigan State/11) each have two. The fans have taken notice as well. Air Force is averaging nearly 2,000 fans per game while Colorado College and Denver have averaged a near-sellout every night. On opening weekend, all three were home and had near-sellouts. Each night opening weekend, more than 14,000 fans were in college hockey arenas in Colorado.
Nation's Top Scoring Team Air Force is the top scoring team in the nation among teams who have played more than one game. The Falcons are averaging 5.12 goals per game. Air Force has scored three or more goals in every game and has scored five or more in five of the eight games.
