Air Force Drops 64-50 Decision to Chicago State

CHICAGO, Ill. - Despite a hot start, the Air Force women's basketball team dropped a 64-50 contest to Chicago State on Tuesday, Dec. 30, in Chicago, Ill. Seniors Brooke Cultra and Kim Kreke accounted for over half of the team's 50 points, each contributing 13. The Falcons dropped to 3-9 on the season, while Chicago State improved to .500 at 7-7.

In addition to hitting two of the team's three three-point shots, Kreke paced the team with 10 rebounds. Sophomore Stevie Puentes added nine points, seven of which came in the second half, while junior Kathleen Schjodt tallied eight.

Cultra got the scoring started for the Falcons, scoring the six of the Falcons' first eight points as they rolled out to an early 8-2 lead. Chicago State hit a three-pointer to pull within three, but Kreke sank a three-pointer of her own to bolster the Falcons' lead. The Cougars cut the lead to one, but Air Force regained a five-point advantage with a layup from sophomore Liz Dunsworth and a basket from Cultra. Chicago State tied the half at 21, but a pair of free throws from Cultra kept the Falcons on top. The Cougars took the lead on the next procession and went into the locker room with a 26-25 lead.

Air Force found itself in an early hole to start the second half, as Chicago State went on an 11-0 run in the opening minutes of action. A layup by freshman Anna Gault stopped the Cougars' scoring streak, but cold-shooting kept the Falcons from cutting into the lead. Chicago State, which hit 52-percent in the second half, maintained its advantage and claimed the 64-50 victory.

The Falcons return to the Academy on Saturday, Jan. 3, when they host service academy rival Navy at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on The Mtn - Mountain West Sports Network. It will be the final non-conference game of the season for Air Force, which opens conference action on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at San Diego State.
