Frawley, Houseworth and Lissy Earn Titles at MWC Championships

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Sophomore Nick Frawley, junior Sean Houseworth and senior David Lissy claimed conference titles, as the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships on Saturday, March 1, at the Academy's Cadet Field House. The three MWC indoor titles are the most since 2003, when Air Force also claimed three championships.
Frawley won his second MWC pole vault title in as many meets after clearing a career-best NCAA Provisional Qualifying height of 17'10¼", Frawley improved his Sophomore Class record and the second-best standing in the Academy's record book. Pending weekend results from other competitions around the country, Frawley's mark is tied for fifth-best in the nation.
Houseworth crossed the finish line in 8:33.26 to win the 3000-meter run. It is the second conference championship for Houseworth, who also won the 10,000-meter run at last year's outdoor championships.
In the final field event of the conference meet, Lissy heaved a career-best 57'11" to win his first-ever conference title. The mark, which was personal-best by nearly 11 inches, topped the runner-up by almost three feet. That distance is the second-best throw in Academy history.
Two Falcons tallied all-conference accolades in the 60-meter hurdles. Junior Kellen Curry posted a personal-best time of 8.00 to take second, while freshman Terry Robinson placed third with a time of 8.28. Air Force also earned a sixth-place finish from senior John Payne (8.47). Curry's time is the eighth-best time in Academy history.
Senior Kevin Hawkins earned all-conference honors in the 800-meter run, as he clocked a second-place time of 1:53.37. That time was just 0.02 off of the meet winner. Senior Travis Picou claimed his fourth all-conference honor in the 200-meter dash, as he finished third with a time of 21.34
In addition to the three conference champions, Air Force earned numerous points from athletes in those three events. Junior Matt Williams clocked a fourth-place time of 8:39.16 in the 3000-meter run, while senior Ian McFarland's time of 8:45.04 was eighth. Sophomore Dan Paladino tossed the shot a distance of 51'2¼" to finish sixth, while senior Matt Gensic cleared 15'1" to tie for eighth in the pole vault.
The Falcons received points in the 60-meter dash from freshman LD Woods and Picou. Woods clocked a career-best time of 6.87 (6.864) to finish sixth, while Picou posted a time of 6.87 (6.870) to take seventh. Air Force also earned points from a pair of runners in the mile. Junior Daniel Castle crossed the finish line in 4:24.28 to place fourth, while classmate Kyle Jones posted a time of 4:28.27 to finish eighth. Senior Matt Gensic picked up points from the
The men's 4x440-yard relay team of Picou, Payne, freshman Noah Palicia and Hawkins clocked a time of 3:19.61 to finish fourth.
The men finished third with 127 points - just one point shy of TCU (128). BYU claimed its eighth title with 169 points, while Wyoming (100), Colorado State (88.50) and New Mexico (44.50) rounded out the field. Head coach Ralph Lindeman was named co-Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with BYU's Mark Robison and Wyoming's Don Yentes.
On the women's side, sophomore Sara Neubauer earned a third-place finish in the shot put, recording a distance of 48'11" to receive all-conference honors. The Falcons also earned points from sophomore Ally Romanko, who clocked a time of 2:13.15 to finish sixth. Romanko also ran the final leg of the 4x440-yard relay that finished eighth with a time of 4:02.35. The sophomore quartet consisted of Jessica Mapes, Becca Burditt and Danielle McCarty.
The women finished ninth with 22 points. TCU won its first team title with 129 points, while Colorado State (121.50) and BYU (112) rounded out the top three.
