AMES, Iowa - Senior Kevin Hawkins clocked a career-best NCAA Provisional Qualifying time in the 800-meter run as three members of the Air Force track and field team competed at the Last Chance Qualifier in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, March 8. Hawkins, the only runner of the three Falcons competing at Iowa State, improved his third-place standing in the Academy's all-time record book.
Hawkins clocked a time of 1:49.27 to finish seventh in the 40-runner race. That time, his second NCAA Provisional mark of the season, is the third-best time in Academy history.
Senior David Lissy also picked up a seventh-place finish after recording a distance of 54'9½" in the shot put. Sophomore Sara Neubauer, who had already set an NCAA provisional mark earlier this season, tied for sixth in the women's shot with a throw of 47'11".
Hawkins, Neubauer and the three other provisionally qualified Falcons will find out their post-season fate on Monday, March 11, with the release of the NCAA Championship field.
