Burnett named AHA Rookie of the Week

U.S.A.F. ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force Academy freshman Derrick Burnett was named the Atlantic Hockey Association rookie of the week for his performance in the team's sweep of Bentley in the AHA quarterfinals, March 7-8. The award is the first of Burnett's career. He is the sixth Air Force player honored by the league this season.
The right winger from Corona, Calif., had four points (1-3-4) in the two games vs. Bentley. He had two points (1-1-2) in Friday's 9-2 win and then added two assists on Saturday in the 3-1 victory. He assisted on Greg Flynn's game-winner on Saturday as Air Force won the best two out of three series and advanced to the AHA Final Five.
Burnett is Air Force's top freshman scorer with 25 points on six goals and 19 assists. He ranks third in the league and 23rd in the nation in points by a rookie. Burnett has 16 points in his last 15 games.
Air Force (19-11-6 overall) travels to Rochester, N.Y. for the AHA Final Five this week. The Falcons, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, faces second-seeded RIT on Saturday, March 15, at 7:35 p.m. ET.
