ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Backed by victories from freshman Brittany Dutton and junior Abigail Rogers, the Air Force women's gymnastics posted its second-highest team score of the season in a dual meet with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Alaska-Anchorage on Friday, March 14, in Alaska. The Falcons continue to hover near the 190-point plateau, scoring a 189.550, a mark just .200 off of its season-best.
The Falcons won the floor exercise (47.925), but succumbed to an overall 191.675-189.550 loss to the Seawolves. The meet was nearly a `neutral site' competition for both programs. UAA is hosting the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Western Regionals at the Seawolves' normal venue, so the meet was moved to a local high school.
Rogers won the floor exercise with a score of 9.825 - a mark just .025 shy of her personal-best, while Dutton tallied a combined score of 38.200 to take first in the all-around.
Rogers was one of three Falcons to highlight the top four of the floor exercise. Sophomore Michelle Denise, who finished second in the all-around with a season-best 38.100, finished third on the floor (9.625), while freshman Lisa Wong place fourth with a score of 9.600. Senior Kelly Lewis also finished within the top half of the field on that event, earning a sixth-place score of 9.450.
Dutton was the Falcons' top scorer on the balance beam and uneven bars. Scoring a mark of 9.650 on the beam to finish fourth, Dutton also accounted for a score of 9.600 on the bars to finish fifth. As the program's second-highest finisher on the vault, Dutton finished sixth with a score of 9.525.
Lewis was Air Force's top finisher on the vault, as she garnered a score of 9.600 to finish fourth.
The Falcons also earned three other top-six finishes. Rogers (9.575) was sixth on the uneven bars, while Denise earned the same finish on the balance beam (9.550).
The two programs will face off once more this weekend, as Air Force and Alaska-Anchorage meet for a rematch on Sunday, March 16.
